When Getting Lost Is the Best Part of the Trip

The Beauty of Not Knowing

I used to be afraid of getting lost. Of veering off course. But then it happened—in a city where the streets twisted like stories—and something surprising unfolded. Without a plan, I was free. Free to discover, to explore, to wonder without worrying about the next thing.

Getting lost became the moment the trip came alive.

Unexpected Paths, Unforgettable Finds

That detour led me to a tucked-away bookshop, a courtyard where children played under drying laundry, a street mural that made me pause and smile. None of it was in my notes. None of it was planned.

And yet, it’s what I remember most.

A Shift in Perspective

Getting lost taught me that control isn’t always necessary. That spontaneity has a beauty all its own. That sometimes, the detour is where the real story begins.

In travel—and in life—the best parts often aren’t found. They’re stumbled into.
