Discovering a City One Coffee Shop at a Time
Cafés as a Window
I don’t always head for the museums first. Often, I find a city’s heart through its cafés. The way people drink their coffee. How long they sit. Whether they talk or stay quiet. There’s so much you can learn from watching a city slow down.
Coffee shops are the soft entry points into everyday life.
A Seat at the Table
Each café becomes a tiny anchor. A place to pause, to write, to notice. To eavesdrop (gently). To absorb. It’s where you feel the city—not just its sights, but its pace, texture, and soul.
And coffee is the great equalizer. Locals and travelers alike gather for a moment of warmth.
A Collection of Comforts
Some people collect souvenirs. I collect cafés. Not physically, but in memory. The espresso by the rainy window in Florence. The tiny flat white and banana bread in a Berlin side street. The thick, sweet coffee in a quiet Hanoi alley.
Through coffee shops, I don’t just discover a city—I let it welcome me.
